Introduction

My name is Michelle Richardson. I am taking this class as a prerequisite for English 1A. I am studying to get my AA degree in Pharmacy Technician. I wanted to do ultrasound, but no school in the area has that program and I cannot relocate because of my children. I have lived in Santa Rosa since I was 8. I was born in Massachussettes. I moved to Virginia when I was to, and then moved to California when I was 8, when my grandpa fell very will to cirrohsis of the liver. I have 3 kids. My youngest baby was just born December 12th, which is why I chose to do all online classes this semester.

I hope to get a brush up on my English writing skills. I have not taken an English class since high school, which was over 6 years ago. My skills in writing essays ex cetera are very rusty. I am hoping that my essay skills will be fine tuned by the end of this class. Currently I work part time 3 days a week cleaning a friend's house. This leaves me plenty of time to focus on my school work. I like to try to pace myself when it comes to school work. With children it doesn't always happen. I plan on getting as much done at the beginning of the week as I can. I try to get my work done as early as possible. Sometimes my week can get ahead of me, so I try to do most of my assignments at the beginning of the week. I have been very successful the last two semesters doing online classes. I am keeping my school load lower than usual due to the new baby and retunring to work on February 1st. I feel very confident that I will do good this summer. I have my fiance to help watch my children while I do homework, and they will also be attending daycare to help me have some alone time to do homework.

  1. Hi Michelle,

It sounds like we have a lot in common. I am really excited for you that you are trying to become a Pharmacy Technician. I am studying to become a nurse. We both definitely are caretakers since I have 5 children and you have 3. How exciting that you just had a baby a month ago. Congratulations!
I haven't taken an English class for many years as well. I truly believe this will be a good class. It's so funny because we both have to get our work done ahead of time:-) You are truly amazing having 3 kids, a brand new baby and going to school while being young. I am 40 years old trying to go back to school. I am running out of energy the older I get, so good for you. Good luck with your career. The picture of your baby is adorable. I look forward to working with you this semester.

  2. I wish I had started my schooling earlier. Or at least had been successful at the schooling that I attempted earlier. I wish that I had my degree already and had a good, steady job. Right now I work for IHSS cleaning a friend's house. I only get 43 hours a month. It makes it kind of hard for me financially. Luckily, my fiance works full time, but even with that we struggle some times. It will be better once he gets his car paid off and I finish my degree.

  3. Hello Michelle,

Your baby is beautiful! I also have trouble with English especially writing essays, my grammar is pretty bad, I hope to fix that. I hope this course changes things. Wow congratulation, your baby is so cute. It must be tiring raising kids, but they're so cute, you can't resisted. I love kids. You are a very determined and that's all that matters. You will succeed! I hope to get to know you more and hear more about you.

  4. It is very tiring taking care of my children. Luckily, my baby is on a pretty set schedule at night. She sleeps for 3 hours at a time at night. It gets tiring during the day because my 3 year old is home all day. She tends to get a little stir crazy. Once I go back to work on the first of next month she will be able to return to her preschool. I am excited for her to go back to school. I want her to be able to interact with other children her age. My daughter is very sociable, so only having contact with my fiance, my one month old, and me is starting to bug her. She has started the annoying habbit of back talking.

  5. Hi Michelle,

Congratulation on your third child. I love kids and I hope to have 3 one day, even though they seem like a lot of work. They are so much fun to watch grow up.

Hopefully you'll enjoy being a Pharmacy Technician, even though I know you wanted ultrasound. Both seem interesting to me though. Good luck.

  6. Sara,
Children can be a lot of work, but it is one of the most rewarding things to watch them grow up. My oldest is 6 and in first grade. Her teacher just informed me that she tested above average in reading and is one of the brightest students in her class. It is an amazing feeling to see your child doing so well early on in school. I hope that I will enjoy being a pharmacy technician, too. Maybe some day I can find a school to study to become an ultrasound technician. I am still young, so it may happen some day. As of right now I cannot relocate, but who knows what will happen a couple years down the road. As my children get older and I have my degree as a pharmacy technician, I will probably be able to afford to move somewhere that has an Ultrasound Technician program. I wish you luck in your journey of becomming an Avian Veterinarian.

  7. Hi Michelle,
First off congratulations!! On your sweet baby, is this a picture of your little one? This is a hug accomplishment in its self. I must admit I am not sure if I could have gone back to school right after having a baby not mention having to take care of two other children to boot, you are inspiration. I love taking online classes they seem to work really well with my home life and my work schedule. I am also here to brush up on my own English skills. It’s been over 30 years since I taken an English class and I thought this would be very helpful in preparing me for English 1A. Kudos to your fiancĂ© for helping out, I’m sure that it would be much harder if you had to do this without his support. But from the sounds of it you are a real go getter so I am sure that you could do anything you put your mind to. Good luck in the class I look forward to working with you.

  8. First off, your baby is so cute. I sooo miss when my kids were babies. My youngest is now 1y (12/4/09). I'm not sure how old your kids are, but I can relate to finding time to get work done. My 2 oldest are in school, and my 1 yr is on a pretty good schedule, so my tip is to try and get online to get class stuff down during nap time. That's pretty much the only online time I have!
    Good Luck!

  10. Hi Michelle,

Your baby is precious. You must be happy. It's not easy going back to school and work after having a baby. It seems like you've been thinking about the transition and have a plan.

Planning to get your work done at the beginning of the week is a great plan. I'm sure it will relieve some of the stress.

I'm looking forward to working with you this semester.

    Take care,
    Lauren
